History of Thoresby Park
Thoresby Park has been owned by the Pierrepont family since
1600. Earl Manvers built the Stables for Thoresby Hall in
1870 to Salvins design to provide accommodation for
his teams of coach horses, his coaches, his hunting horses,
coachmen, stud groom and stable boys (on the first floor).
By the 1930-40s it was largely disused, but was given a new
life by the Army during the war years providing accommodation
for sergeants and the NAAFI providing recreation for the soldiers
who were being trained to use armoured tanks.
Post-war, it was used for farm storage until it was refurbished
in 1990-2000 for its current role as a retail and multi-arts
venue, offering a diverse range of retail, cultural and arts
activities and regular events in the surrounding Park.
In 2006 The Courtyard and surrounding park was generously
donated to The Stonebridge Trust, to keep the Courtyard (
Listed Building ) for the benefit of the public.
